According to legend, the Christmas tree lighting tradition began with the founder of German Protestantism, martin Luther. While walking through the forest on Christmas Eve, Luther was so moved by the beauty of the starlit fir trees that he brought one indoors and decorated it with candles to remind his children of God’s creation.
Hence, this activity is undertaken by the Local Government Unit to make everyone merry during the Christmas holidays and will likewise encourage participation from the LGU employees and Private Sector as they are assigned a tree to decorate and light during the simultaneous lighting on December 1, 2007 at exactly 6:00 in the evening. The Municipal Building and kapalong Town Square is an avenue of joyful gathering of families from all walks of life as they can see the beautiful decorations that depicts various concepts that will remind them of the spirit of Christmas which the season bring.
This aims to bring merriment and bright Christmas to the people of kapalong as each tree sparks with Christmas lights. The holiday helps creates a sense of unity among LGU employees and private sector as they decorate and adopt a tree. Further, this brings camaraderie among employees, improve and polish their individual artistic ability in conceptualizing their chosen decorations.
“Basura ko, Liwanag ng Pasko” is the theme for light a tree program. Indigenous materials, used cell cards, paper chains, candles, empty bottles and other decorations made the simple tree into a beautiful parlor centerpiece at Christmastime.(cj)
