LGU Kapalong- Gawad Kalinga partners in house building project

A 5.4 million budget out of local funds was appropriated by the municipal government of Kapalong under the leadership of Mayor Edgardo L. Timbol for the improvement of the Kapalong Public Market which started last December 8, 2008.

The Municipal Government of Kapalong headed by Mayor  Edgardo L. Timbol in partnership with Gawad Kalinga Region XI initiated an appreciation and partnership meeting with the different heads of banana companies, banks, cooperatives and owners of business establishments operating in the municipality.

Mayor Timbol urged the invitees to take part in building houses for the poorest of the poor in line with the LGU’s program of resettling those homeless Kapalong residents. A 4.4990 hectare of land was purchased by the LGU   at Sitio Ilaboon of Brgy. Maniki of which 2.037 hectares is programmed as relocation area which could accommodate 216 households at 94 sq.m per lot. It was totally an effective and successful partnership meeting as majority of the invitees pledged to support. Some even handed immediately their cash assistance for the purpose.

The LGU provided 2.2  million as initial budget  for the site development which include the installation of water facilities and electrical lines and establishment of drainage system.

Just this year, another 2.4 million was appropriated as additional fund to develop the area to include the construction of a pre-school building and additional fund for electrification, drainage canal construction and road rehabilitation.

“I made it a point that the resettlement site would be a livable place to our constituents who are financially handicapped and deprived of having a house of their own.  I always tell those people especially those living in shanties in the river banks to avail this opportunity as they are always in danger every time flash flooding occurs.” Mayor Timbol said.

To date, there are already four families who were resettled namely: Mr & Mrs. Roger Jocson, Mr. & Mrs. Avelino Angcog, Mrs. Rosario Tanguan and Evelyn Roa both widow.

  “Nagpasalamat dyod ko ni Mayor Timbol nga gitabangan mi nga makabalay na gyud”, Mrs. Tanguan remarked with glee.

The Couples for Christ Kapalong Chapter has already a record of more than Three Hundred Thousand Pesos cash donation coming from different sponsors for building house units: The LGU of Kapalong sponsored P150,000; The Kapalong Cooperative sponsored P85,000 enough to build a whole house unit; Other sponsors include, Board Member Leopoldo Monteroso who gave P40,000., Mrs. Jing dela Cruz P20,000; Dr. Victorio Royo, Jr. P10,000.00; Mr. John Gaisano P10,000; Mr.& Mrs. Daisydario Dagaang P5,000; Mr. & Mrs. Nonong Fernandez P2,000;

  The Kapalong United Local Employees Association (KULEA) also pledged to sponsor the building and cost of one house unit;

The CFC continues to accept donations and should you wish to take part in this endeavor, please contact or see Mr. Edwin E. Ganiera CFC-GK Project Director and Community Affairs Officer at the Office of the Mayor. (MIO Kapalong)

long law enforcers while patrolling the municipality and meet the challenge of maintaining its peace and order through a lower patrol cost.  Protective gears were included for their safety.

“This is the initial start of patrolling the peace and order of our municipality via bikes to save gasoline and encourage healthy lifestyle among police officers”, Mayor Timbol said.

The mayor added that more bikes will be provided for the purpose as the funds become available. (MIO Kapalong).
